If you’re a Brisbanite from way back, you may remember spending some time at the Lord Alfred Hotel (then known as Hotel LA) on Caxton Street in your early twenties. I have many a fond memory of eating a kebab at 2:00am outside what was the former street bar (and now known as Alfie’s) overlooking Suncorp Stadium.
Heritage listed, The Lord Alfred is a Brisbane icon at almost 145 years old, and has recently completed one of the first stages of a clever refurbishment which will extend and utilise the pub space and handy location. The EA Initiative recently got a private tour and we were delighted to see the results and incredible potential for another much needed reliably good corporate event and function space in inner city Brisbane.
Starting with the Brasserie, we enjoyed a delicious, strong Piccolo in a bright, airy elegant salon style room accessible from Petrie Terrace. The Brasserie and Alfred’s Bar (the main inside bar) had been done up with exposed, timeless raw brick walls along with plush carpet and luxe tropical wallpaper. Offering a fully stocked cocktail and wine bar, cafe and share plates, the Brasserie would be the perfect place to host a Hens afternoon or Baby Shower, whilst Alfred’s Bar is the perfect spot for an after work drink or two or a more formal cocktail party.
